Magistrate of the Imperial Forest

Japanese: 御林奉行 - おはやしぶぎょう

〘Noun〙 The title of a job in the Edo Shogunate. The chief was in charge of the management and administration of the direct-controlled forests under the Finance Magistrate's Office, but after the separation of the Imperial Forestry Department, he was in charge of the protection and supervision of the Imperial forests and all matters related to reforestation. 〘名〙江戸幕府の職名。勘定奉行に属して直轄林の管理、経営を担当した長官であるが、御林方の分立後は、御林の保護・監察および造林に関する諸務を管掌した。私藩では会津藩を除き、そのほかでは同一職を山奉行、材木奉行などといった。※財政経済史料‐四・官制・勘定所職制・勘定所分課・宝暦四年（1754）閏二月一六日「一、今度御林奉行就_下被_二仰付_一候_上、御為第一に奉_レ存」
