Valentine is a holiday for the Christian saint Valentine (the English pronunciation of Valentine). It is held on February 14th. There are two saints with the same name (and the same holiday) who were both martyred in the late 3rd century, and there is also said to have been another monk whose whereabouts are unknown, so it is unclear which person it is named after. Today, it is known mainly in the UK and the US as a day when lovers exchange Valentine cards and gifts, and in Japan, it is especially popular for women to profess their love by giving chocolates.

キリスト教の聖人ウァレンティヌスValentinus(バレンタインはその英語読み)の祝日。2月14日。いずれも3世紀後半に殉教した同名の聖人(祝日も同じ)が2人おり，さらに事跡不詳の別の修道士もいたとされ，どの人物に由来するかは不明である。今日では英米を中心に，恋人たちがカードValentine cardや贈物をとり交わす日として知られ，日本では特に女性の方から愛をうち明けることができる日としてチョコレートを贈ることがさかんに行われている。
