[Born] circa 491. Antioch? Died around 578. Byzantine chronicler. Little is known about his life, but his main work, the Chronographia, consists of 18 volumes and is typical of Christian and Byzantine chronicles. Its writing style and terminology are suitable for the general public, and it begins with the creation of the world and includes many ancient myths and anecdotes. It is believed to cover the period up to 565 or 574. However, the extant manuscripts end in 563. As a historical source, the descriptions in the first half of the 6th century are important, but their influence was great on later Byzantine, Slavic, and Western European chroniclers. It is known that there were already Slavic translations in manuscripts from the 10th and 11th centuries.
