Acupuncture - Acupuncture
A metallic needle or needle-like instrument used for medical treatment, made of gold, silver, platinum, iron, or stainless steel. The word acupuncture also refers to acupuncture treatment using such an instrument. Acupuncture is a unique form of treatment that developed in China, and although its origins are unclear, the physiology, pathology, and treatment of acupuncture are described in the Huangdi Neijing Suwen. Acupuncture spread to neighboring regions such as Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand, but is believed to have been introduced to Japan through Korea around 573, and the Medical Law of the Taiho Code of 701 (Taiho 1) established a system of acupuncturists, acupuncturist doctors, and acupuncturist doctors.

治療のために用いられる金属性の針または針状の器具で,金,銀,プラチナ,鉄,ステンレス鋼などで作られている。鍼の語はまたこの器具を用いて行う鍼治療をもさす。鍼治療は中国で発達した独特の治療法の一つで,その起源は明らかではないが,《黄帝内経素問》に鍼の生理,病理,治療などについて記されている。鍼治療は朝鮮,ベトナム,タイなどの周辺地域へと伝播したが,日本には573年ころ朝鮮を通じて伝わったとされ,701年(大宝1)の大宝令の医疾令には鍼師,鍼博士,鍼生の制度が設けられている。
