An insect of the Lepidoptera, Lyonetiidae family. It is a small moth with a wing span of 0.5-1.3 cm, with very elongated wings, elongated forewings, and hair margins longer than the wing width. Most of the larvae are leaf-mining moths, digging tunnels into a leaf and feeding on the tissue, and when they mature, they create a hammock-like cocoon or a cocoon covered with bundles of silk threads. Since the infested leaves leave unique feeding marks for each species, the type of moth can often be identified by considering the name of the host plant. Insects that leave feeding marks on leaves like this are commonly called "writing moths", but this does not necessarily mean that they are leaf-mining moths.
