A district in Nishi-ku, Sakai City, in the west of Osaka Prefecture. Formerly known as Hamadera-cho. A seaside district south of Ishizu River, the area's name comes from Daiyu-ji Temple's nickname Hamadera. The coast was once part of Takashinohama, known for its scenic white sand and green pines, and Hamadera Park is located here. In 1907 (Meiji 40), the Nankai Electric Railway took the opportunity of double-tracking and electrification between Osaka's Namba Station and Hamadera Park to begin developing the coastal residential area, and by the early Showa period it had become an upscale residential area. The Hankai Electric Tramway also runs through the area. Hamadera Funao-cho is also home to the Yayoi period Yotsuike ruins.
