Hamatama [town] - Hamatama
An old town in Higashi Matsuura County in northern Saga Prefecture. Facing Karatsu Bay, it has long been a key transportation point with the continent, and has many ruins. The town is primarily agricultural, and the foothills are a major producer of mandarin oranges (Tamashima mandarins). There is Niji no Matsubara Pine Grove and a swimming beach. The Chikuhi Line runs through the town. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Karatsu City along with the towns of Iki, Ochi, Hizen, Chinzei, Yobuko, and Kitahata in Higashi Matsuura County. 52.13 km2 . Population: 10,638 (2003).

佐賀県北部，東松浦郡の旧町。唐津湾に臨み，古くから大陸との交通要地として開け，遺跡が多い。農業を主とし山麓部はミカン（玉島ミカン）の大産地。虹(にじ)ノ松原，海水浴場がある。筑肥線が通じる。2005年１月東松浦郡厳木町，相知町，肥前町，鎮西町，呼子町，北波多村と唐津市へ編入。52.13km2。１万638人（2003）。
