Hamatama [town] - Hamatama

Japanese: 浜玉[町] - はまたま

An old town in Higashi Matsuura County in northern Saga Prefecture. Facing Karatsu Bay, it has long been a key transportation point with the continent, and has many ruins. The town is primarily agricultural, and the foothills are a major producer of mandarin oranges (Tamashima mandarins). There is Niji no Matsubara Pine Grove and a swimming beach. The Chikuhi Line runs through the town. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Karatsu City along with the towns of Iki, Ochi, Hizen, Chinzei, Yobuko, and Kitahata in Higashi Matsuura County. ^{52.13 km2} . Population: 10,638 (2003).
