A device that creates a sense of three-dimensionality by placing models of plants, trees, people, etc. in front of a semicircular curved background painting, and uses lighting to give indoor viewers the feeling of looking at a wide, real outdoor scene. It was invented in 1788 by the British artist Richard Parker. In Japan, the first panorama pavilion appeared at the 3rd Domestic Industrial Exposition held in Ueno Park, Tokyo in 1890 (Meiji 23). It reached its peak during the Russo-Japanese War and then went into decline. There was also a diorama, where a three-dimensional model was placed against a two-meter-high background painting and viewed through glass. Currently, panoramas are used in show windows and on walls. A high place from which one can see the surrounding scenery into the distance is also called a panorama stand.
