〘Noun〙① ("Hana" means a gift) Sumo other than the official sumo tournaments held in the spring and autumn. Originally, there was no admission fee, and the tournaments were held solely on the gift money of the audience. Nowadays, it refers to "retirement sumo tournaments" and "welfare sumo tournaments" held after the end of official tournaments, and winning or losing does not affect rankings or salaries. *Kyowa Toku Waka Go Banzaishu (1785), Volume 3 "Spring is not spring, autumn's chigusa flowers are tufted in the wind, haori crepe is worn"② Like Hanaawase (flower match) , this is a game in which the wrestlers are divided into east and west teams and compete to see who is the best by putting out various flowers.
