Also known as carcinogens. A general term for chemicals that induce cancer. Carcinogens also exist in nature. Examples include mycotoxins such as aflatoxin, and nitrosamines that form in the stomach when secondary amines and nitrites are eaten together. Furthermore, some chemically synthesized substances are carcinogenic. Based on animal experiments with substances suspected of being carcinogenic, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified 50 types of substances that are clearly carcinogenic in Group 1, and approximately 200 types of substances that are suspected of being carcinogenic in Group 2. Most of these are substances that people come into contact with in their jobs or as medicines. The most carcinogenic substance is considered to be aflatoxin. →Related topicsCancer|Cancer suppressor genes|Industrial pollution|Sick house syndrome|Passive smoking|Tumor|Artificial cancer|Tar cancer|Diesel exhaust pollution|Smoking separation|Smoke-reducing tobacco Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
