Eventually, calls for the king to be declared incompetent grew louder. On June 8, 1886, four doctors, including BA von Gudden (1824-1886), a professor of psychiatry at the University of Munich, signed a psychiatric evaluation stating that "the king's illness was incurable and he was unable to carry out government duties." On June 10, the king was declared incompetent and moved to a villa on the shores of Lake Starnberg, where he was confined. Then, on Sunday the 13th, at around 4:30 p.m., he went out for a walk with Gudden and did not return, and the two were finally found drowned that night. ...
