A bird of the Sturnidae family in the order Passeriformes (illustration). It is also known as the Mynah (Eight Mynahs) or Hahacho (Eight Eight Birds), and in Taiwan it is called Karen. Its total length is about 26 cm. Its whole body is a slightly dull black color, with a prominent white band on the wings, and the tips of its tail and undertail feathers are also slightly white. It has a short crest on its forehead. Its beak and feet are yellow. It is found in southern China, Taiwan, Hainan Island, Vietnam, etc., and has been introduced to the Philippines and Vancouver, Canada. It lives in lowland fields and near houses, and usually lives in small flocks of 10 to 30 birds.
