Birch

Japanese: バーチ

Yellow birch is a broadleaf tree of the Betula genus in the Betula family. Its dense grain gives it a beautiful surface finish. It is fairly easy to process, and paint adheres well to it, making it suitable for polishing. It is also tough and has excellent bending properties. However, it is not suitable as an exterior material due to its low durability. For this reason, it is used for interior materials such as furniture, interior panels, flooring, and doors.

カバノキ科シラカンバ属の広葉樹。Yellow birch。木肌が緻密なため、表面の仕上がりが美しい。加工はかなり容易で、塗装の付着性も良く艶出し加工に適している。また、粘りがあり曲げ性能にも優れる。しかし、耐久性が低いためエクステリア材としては不向き。そのため、家具材、内装パネル材、フローリング、ドアなどの内装関係で使用される。
