King Ideok
525-599 * The 27th king of Baekje (Korea). Reigned 554-599*.
Born in the third year of King Seong's (King Seongmyeong's) reign. Son of King Seong. In 553, he attacked Goguryeo (Korea). The following year, during an expedition to Silla (Korea), his father was killed in battle, but he was saved by the governor of Tsukushi Province. He sent envoys to Japan several times, and in the sixth year of the reign of Emperor Bidatsu (577), he sent Buddhist scriptures, monks, and artisans to carve Buddhist statues. He died in December of the 45th year of the reign of King Ideok. He was 74 years old. His given name was Chang.

聖王(聖明王)3年生まれ。聖王の子。553年高句麗(こうくり)(朝鮮)を攻める。翌年新羅(しらぎ)(朝鮮)遠征中に父は戦死したが,自身は筑紫国造(つくしのくにのみやつこ)にたすけられる。日本に何度か使者を派遣し,敏達(びだつ)天皇6年(577)には経論,僧,造仏工などをおくった。威徳王45年12月死去。74歳。諱(いみな)は昌。
