Bataka Association

The Buganda Kingdom was a traditionalist land recovery organization that arose in the East African kingdom of Buganda (now the center of the Republic of Uganda) around 1918. In 1900, an agreement was reached between the British and the Buganda Kingdom that placed about half of Buganda's sparsely populated areas under the jurisdiction of the British Protectorate Government as Crown Lands, while the other densely populated areas were given private land ownership based on Western concepts. In this agreement, the rights of clan leaders (Bataka), who traditionally held land based on blood ties, were ignored, and land was distributed in favor of appointed chiefs.

1918年ころ東アフリカのブガンダ王国(現ウガンダ共和国の中心部を占める)で起こった伝統主義的な土地回復運動の組織。1900年のイギリスとブガンダ王国との協定によって，ブガンダ全土の約半分にあたる人口希薄な地域はクラウン･ランドとしてイギリス保護領政府の管轄下に置かれ，他の人口稠密地域には西欧的な概念による土地私有制が導入されることになった。この際，伝統的に血縁関係に基づいて土地を保有していた氏族長(バタカ)の権利は無視され，任命による首長に有利な土地分配がなされた。
