Allelopathy

It is also called allelopathy or action at a distance. In the natural world where various organisms coexist, some organisms may have an effect on others. When this effect between organisms is caused by chemical substances excreted by organisms, it is called allelopathy, and the chemical substances that cause allelopathy are called allelopathic substances. In general, it refers to the phenomenon in which plants act on other plants, and the phenomenon in which weeds do not grow easily around the base of walnut or pine trees, and the phenomenon of habitat refuge caused by continuous crop damage to asparagus, are allelopathic. Juglone in walnut trees and polyacetylene compounds in Solidago altissima are known as allelopathic substances.

他感作用あるいは遠隔作用ともいう.種々の生物が共存する自然界では,ある生物がほかの生物に対して影響を与えている場合がある.この生物間の影響が,生物により対外に排出される化学物質によって引き起こされる現象をアレロパシー(他感作用)といい,アレロパシーを引き起こす化学物質を他感作用物質という.一般には,植物がほかの植物に作用する現象をいい,クルミの木やマツの木の根本に雑草が生えにくい現象や,アスパラガスの連作障害などによる忌地(いやち)現象もアレロパシーによるものである.クルミの木のジュグロンや,セイタカアワダチソウのポリアセチレン化合物などが他感作用物質として知られている.
