A river in the eastern United States. It originates in the Appalachian Mountains, flows east, and empties into the Chesapeake Bay. It is 462 km long. There are many historical sites from the Civil War. The riverside in the lower reaches of Washington is known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms, which were a gift from Japan. The name comes from 2,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees donated by Tokyo Mayor Ozaki Yukio in 1909, but they were all burned down due to insect damage, so 3,100 new seedlings were donated in 1912.
