A lay Buddhist sect that flourished in China from the Song to the Yuan dynasties. It was founded by the monk Qingjie. It was a religious group that was extremely critical of Zen Buddhism and adhered to religious discipline. It developed mainly in Zhejiang Province, where Qingjie's remains were buried, but it was persecuted by the government at the time and criticized by other sects for being a heretical cult, and eventually fell into disuse. 中国で宋代から元代にかけて盛んとなった在家中心の仏教の宗派。沙門清覚が開いた。禅宗を極端に批判し,戒律主義をとった宗教団体で,清覚の遺骨を埋葬した浙江省を中心として発展したが,邪教の名のもとに当時の政府の弾圧や他宗派からの批判にあって,やがて滅亡した。
