Pyrope (English spelling)

Japanese: パイロープ（英語表記）pyrope

An end component of garnet solid solution. Mg ₃ Al ₂ Si ₃ O ₁₂ . A cubic crystal mineral. Hardness 7.5, specific gravity 3.535. It is pink-red, but when some of the magnesium is replaced by iron, it turns purple-red. Blood-red pyrope is used as a gemstone. Pure pyrope does not exist in nature, but forms a solid solution with iron-aluminum garnet. It is also called magnesium garnet. It is stable above 100°C unless it is under high pressure of more than 7000 atmospheres. It is found in garnet olivine and eclogite.

柘榴石固溶体の端成分。 Mg₃Al₂Si₃O₁₂ 。立方晶系の鉱物。硬度 7.5，比重 3.535。桃赤色であるが，マグネシウムの一部が鉄に置換されると紫赤色になる。血赤色のものは宝石になる。天然のものには純粋なパイロープはなく，鉄礬 (てつばん) 柘榴石と固溶体をなしている。苦礬柘榴石ともいう。 100℃以上では 7000気圧以上の高圧下でなければ安定に存在しない。柘榴石橄欖岩やエクロジャイトに産する。
