The metal fittings on the corners and centers of doors, nageshi (backboards), kayaoi (backboards), and gable boards are also decorative, but among these, the corner fittings of wooden doors, the tsuji fittings of sankarado (door frames), the fastening fittings of backboards, and the bow fittings of gable boards probably originally had a reinforcing purpose as well. …

…　飾金具は多くの種類があり，形や使用個所，用途などによって種々に分けられ，呼名が異なる。扉の唄金具(饅頭金具，乳金具)や長押の六葉などの釘隠（くぎかくし）は，留釘の先や頭を隠すためのまったく装飾用のものである。扉の散金具（ちらしかなぐ）や長押，茅負（かやおい），破風板などの隅や中央に打った金具も装飾用ではあるが，そのうち板扉の隅金具，桟唐戸（さんからど）の辻金具，茅負の留金具，破風板の拝み金具などは元来は補強的な意味もあったのだろう。…
