Violet - Violet (English spelling) sweet violet

A perennial plant of the Violaceae family (APG classification: Violaceae). Also called sweet violet. 10-15 cm tall. Leaves grow from the base of the plant, are heart-shaped with sawtooth, and have long petioles. Flower stalks emerge one by one from the base of the plant, and produce fragrant purple flowers. Horticultural varieties also have pink, white, and pale blue flowers, and some have double flowers. In warm areas, they start blooming in November and peak in March. Native to Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia, they are planted in flower beds and pots for decorative purposes, as well as cut flowers. They are also famous as ingredients in perfumes. To reproduce, the stolon branches that branch out after the flowering season are divided and planted in a warm, sunny place. They are vulnerable to dryness and strong light in summer, and are often damaged by spider mites, so care must be taken.
