...Since the early 1970s, when kung fu films (the English pronunciation of the Chinese Wade-Giles romanization kung fu) typified by Bruce Lee's (1940-73) series of films starring him, such as Enter the Dragon (1972), became a worldwide boom and attracted attention, Hong Kong films have become synonymous with kung fu films and are known throughout the world. Kung fu is a martial art for self-defense in the Cantonese dialect, and action films that mainly feature fighting using Chinese boxing are collectively called kung fu films, but there are also films that depict not only unarmed fights but also fights using various Chinese martial arts with weapons (i.e., wuxia films)....
