Born June 28, 1886. Older brother of Imamura Tasaku. After serving as Vice Chief of Staff of the Kwantung Army and Commander of the 5th Division, he became Commander of the 16th Army in 1941. The following year he became Commander of the 8th Area Army and led the Rabaul Operation. In 1943 he became a General. After the war he became a war criminal and requested to serve his sentence on Manus Island where his subordinates were being held. He was released in 1964. He passed away on October 4, 1968, at the age of 82. He was from Miyagi Prefecture and graduated from the Army War College. His work includes "Memoirs of General Imamura Hitoshi."
