Chronograph - Kuro no Graf (English spelling) chronograph

Chronograph - Kuro no Graf (English spelling) chronograph

A regular clock that shows the time is equipped with a stopwatch function to measure time intervals. A chronograph is used when split or lap times need to be measured. This clock has two second hands, which start moving as soon as the clock is started, and one hand stops when the push button is pressed. When the button is pressed again after recording, the stopped second hand catches up with the chronograph second hand, which continues to move, and continues to move together. Many of these clocks have special scales such as a distance meter, speedometer, and pulse meter in addition to the time scale. Digital quartz clocks equipped with this chronograph function are not uncommon.

The word chronograph originally meant "to write time" and referred to a clock that kept records. In 1807, T. Young invented the recording chronograph, which marked the start and end of time with a pen on a rotating drum. In the 1840s, chronographs capable of measuring to 0.001 seconds appeared. Currently, in addition to those that record on paper tape or rotating drums, there are also those that use electronic tube counters and cathode ray tube oscillographs.
