NORAD - North American Aerospace Defense Command

Japanese: NORAD - のーらっど/NORAD/えぬおーあーるえーでぃー(英語表記)North American Aerospace Defense Command
NORAD - North American Aerospace Defense Command
A joint US-Canadian organization tasked with quickly detecting and warning of the intrusion of missiles and bombers into North America. Established in 1958, its headquarters are at Peterson Air Force Base near Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is an "information fortress" that utilizes a variety of cutting-edge electronic technologies, including the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS), the Northern Warning System, the Perimeter Search Radar Attack Identification System (PARCS), and the Over-the-Horizon Backscatter Radar (OTH-B). It also collects military and meteorological information and tracks satellites, and with the end of the Cold War, its duties included monitoring and interdicting drug trafficking from South America. Since the 9/11 attacks, it has taken on a global role, monitoring and defending against not only attacks from overseas but also domestic terrorism.
