Primal scene

Among the various events observed, imagined, or speculated in childhood, scenes that often cause anxiety even after adulthood and become the cause of neurosis, Freud only named the scene of sexual intercourse between parents as a primal scene. The issue with primal scenes is whether they are actual events or scenarios of an imaginary world created by a child's imagination. Freud initially tried to prove the reality of primal scenes as psychic trauma that neurotics actually suffered, but this effort soon receded and he began to place more weight on the scenarios of fantasies that each person creates instead. In other words, primal scenes are things of each person's past, and they are always understood and interpreted "later," but he came to believe that no matter how they are perceived and given meaning, they already existed for each person, even if they were largely mythical.
