Yoshitane Souma

Year of birth: Tenbun 17 (1548)
A feudal lord in the early Edo period. The first lord of the Nakamura Domain in Mutsu Province (Fukushima Prefecture). Born in Odaka Castle (Soma County, Fukushima Prefecture). His father was Moritane, the lord of Odaka Castle, and his mother was the daughter of Kakeda Yoshimune. He was commonly known as Magojiro. Nagato no Kami. During the Tensho era (1573-92), the clan was in danger of annihilation due to a conflict with Date Masamune, but escaped the crisis with Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Oshu Shioki in Tensho 18 (1590). In the same year, the Toyotomi government confirmed his original territory of over 48,000 koku. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 (Keicho 5), he did not take part, incurring the wrath of Ieyasu, but in the seventh year he was awarded 60,000 koku and appointed his son Toshitane as his representative. In 1616, he moved to Nakamura Castle. In 1625 (Kan'ei 2), upon Toshitane's death, he became the guardian of his grandson Toranosuke. He died in Nakamura Castle. He was a man who overcame many crises for the Soma family from the end of the Sengoku period.

Yoshitane Souma

Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. A vassal of the early Kamakura period. Son of Michitsune. In June 1205, he accompanied the hunt for Hatakeyama Shigetada and was given Takashiro-ho in Mutsu Province (including Matsushima-cho, Miyagi Prefecture) as a reward. In November of the same year, upon his father's death, he became the head of the Soma clan in both name and reality. In December 1227, he granted his daughter Doyo-no-Gozen the estate of Soma Mikuriya in Shimousa Province and other holdings. In July of the following year, he accompanied the Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, Kujo Yoritsune, when he traveled to the Tamura Mountain Villa of Miura Yoshimura. 江戸前期の大名。陸奥国中村(福島県)藩の初代藩主。小高(福島県相馬郡)城に生まれる。父は小高城主盛胤,母は掛田義宗の娘。通称孫次郎。長門守。天正年中(1573～92)伊達政宗と争い滅亡の危機に瀕したが,豊臣秀吉による天正18(1590)年の奥羽仕置によって危機を脱した。同年,豊臣政権から本領4万8000石余を安堵された。慶長5(1600)年の関ケ原の戦では,参陣せず家康の勘気をこうむったが,7年6万石を拝領,子の利胤を名代とした。16年中村城に移る。寛永2(1625)年利胤の死去により,孫虎之助を後見。中村城で死去。戦国末期から相馬家の危機を何度も乗り切った人物。

相馬義胤

生年：生没年不詳
鎌倉前期の御家人。師常の子。元久2(1205)年6月,畠山重忠の追討に従い,恩賞として陸奥国高城保(宮城県松島町など)を与えられた。同年11月,父の死によって名実ともに相馬氏の惣領となる。安貞1(1227)年12月,娘の土用御前に下総国相馬御厨内などの所領を譲与。翌2年7月,鎌倉幕府将軍九条頼経が三浦義村の田村山荘に渡御した際,これに供奉。翌月,相馬御厨の上分物に関して幕府から御教書を下されたのを最後に史料から姿を消している。<参考文献>岡田清一『中世相馬氏の基礎的研究』
