Six species of Gymnocarpium are known from the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, and belong to the Gymnocarpaceae family. Gymnocarpium jessoensis (Koidz.) Koidz. often grows on limestone and serpentine, and can tolerate places where other species cannot grow.
