Nonomiya Sadamoto

Japanese:
Nonomiya Sadamoto
Year of death: 29th June 1711 (13th August 1711)
Year of birth: July 14, 1669 (August 10, 1669)
A family of courtiers and priests in the early Edo period. According to one theory, he died on the 28th. He was the second son of Nakanoin Michishige. His first name was Chikamune. His pen names included Shodo and Shisui. In 1677 (Enpo 5), he became the heir to the Nomiya family after the death of his uncle Nomiya Sadanori, and changed his name to Sadamoto. He learned courtiers and priests from Takahashi Munetsune, who was in charge of the altar. In 1694 (Genroku 7), he made an effort to revive the Kamo Festival, which had been discontinued since the Onin period, and this prompted him to focus on collecting historical materials related to the Kamo Shrine, and as a result, he compiled 220 volumes of the Gunki Ruikan. At the time, he was known as one of the four great courtiers, along with Higashizono Motokazu, Hiramatsu Tokikata, and Shigenoi Kinsumi. Arai Hakuseki also held his courtiers' learning in high regard, and he would often question him, and Sadamoto compiled his responses in the Niino Mondo. <References> Shiba Kazumori, "Lord Nomiya Sadamoto as a Loyalist" (Historical Geography, Vol. 11, No. 1)
