...A temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect in Yanaizu-machi, Kawanuma-gun, Fukushima Prefecture. It is called Reiganzan. It is the first of the three Kokuzo temples in Japan. It is an ancient temple that is said to have been founded by the great Hosso sect scholar Tokuichi during the Daido era (806-810). Tokuichi was based in Aizu and was a famous monk known for his fierce debates with Saicho. There are many temples in the Fukushima region that claim to have been founded by Tokuichi, including Enichi-ji Temple. The principal image, Fukuman Kokuzo Bosatsu, is said to have been created by Kukai.
