This refers to a movement to improve the work efficiency of factory production that began in the United States towards the end of the 19th century. The first systematic advocate of the efficiency improvement movement was American F.W. Taylor. He compiled the results of his experiments and research into the systematization of on-site management in American industry, and published Shop Management in 1903 and The Principles of Scientific Management in 1911.
