An old town in the center of Nomi Island, Saiki District, Hiroshima Prefecture. Settlements are scattered across the lowlands that run north to south through the center of the island and on the northern coast. Mandarin oranges, forced vegetables, and flowers (persimmons) are cultivated here and there. Oysters are also farmed. A regular ferry service runs between Nakamachi, the main settlement, and Ujina in Hiroshima City. In November 2004, the town merged with Etajima Town, Okimi Town, and Okaki Town in Aki District to become Etajima City. 16.58 km2 . 6,303 people (2003). 広島県佐伯郡,能美島中央部の旧町。集落は島の中央を南北に連なる低地と北部の海岸に点在する。ミカン,促成野菜,花卉(かき)栽培が盛ん。カキの養殖も行う。主集落の中町と広島市宇品との間に定期船が就航。2004年11月安芸郡江田島町,沖美町,大柿町と合併し市制,江田島市となる。16.58km2。6303人(2003)。
