Rural Education - Nosonkyoiku

The term "educational activities" refers to educational activities that contribute to the modern and rational development of agriculture and peasant life in rural society. These activities are carried out in school education and social education, either independently or in conjunction with each other. There are inherent problems associated with the development of capitalism, such as the contradictions and conflicts between industry and agriculture, or between cities and rural areas. In Japan, however, the sense of communal order that was preserved under the landlord system and family-based small farming, and which was constantly reorganized and strengthened under the nationalist political system, has hindered the modernization and democratization of rural society.

農村社会において，農業と農民生活の近代的･合理的発展に資するような教育活動の総称。学校教育と社会教育でそれぞれ独自にまたは相互に関連しながら行われる。そこには資本主義の発達にともなう工業と農業あるいは都市と農村の矛盾･対立という固有の問題があるが，日本の場合には，地主制と家族労働的小農経営のなかで温存され，しかも国家主義政治体制のもとで不断に再編強化された共同体的秩序意識が，農村社会の近代化と民主化をさまたげてきた。
