A world-famous, high-quality newspaper published in Zurich, Switzerland. It was first published in 1780 as a weekly newspaper, Züricher Zeitung, and in 1821 changed its title to its current one, becoming a daily newspaper in 1843. It is smaller than normal, contains almost no photographs, and is heavily edited to thoroughly eliminate sensationalism. It has gained an international reputation as "journalism as anti-journalism." Although it has a small circulation of about 150,000 copies (1995), it is widely read among intellectuals around the world. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
