A world-famous, high-quality newspaper published in Zurich, Switzerland. It was first published in 1780 as a weekly newspaper, Züricher Zeitung, and in 1821 changed its title to its current one, becoming a daily newspaper in 1843. It is smaller than normal, contains almost no photographs, and is heavily edited to thoroughly eliminate sensationalism. It has gained an international reputation as "journalism as anti-journalism." Although it has a small circulation of about 150,000 copies (1995), it is widely read among intellectuals around the world.

スイスのチューリヒで発行されている世界的高級紙。1780年に週刊《チュリヒャー･ツァイトゥング》として創刊され，1821年に現在のタイトルに改題，43年から日刊となった。通常の判型より小型で写真はほとんどなく，センセーショナリズムを徹底的に排除した重厚な編集で，〈アンチ･ジャーナリズムとしてのジャーナリズム〉として，国際的な名声を博している。約15万部(1995)の小部数ながら，世界の有識者層の間で広く読まれている。
