Tree-ring dating - Nenrin Nendaihou

Japanese: 年輪年代法 - ねんりんねんだいほう
Tree-ring dating - Nenrin Nendaihou
A method used in archaeology to determine the age of buildings and wooden products from tree rings. In mid-latitude regions, tree growth is not constant due to seasonal changes in temperature and the amount of rainfall, and the width of the tree rings varies. If the pattern of change in tree ring width in a certain region can be known going back in time, it is possible to determine the age at which the tree was felled from the tree rings of an artifact. However, this method is only applicable to certain tree species and regions.
