A former town in Ibo County in the southwest of Hyogo Prefecture. Located in the lower reaches of the Ibo River in the western part of the Harima Plain, it is primarily a rice farming town, with tomatoes, cucumbers and other suburban agriculture thriving. It also produces light soy sauce and agricultural machinery, and is home to a wool industry. The Sanyo Main Line runs through the town. In October 2005, it merged with Tatsuno City, Ibo County's Shingu Town, and Mitsu Town to become the city of Tatsuno. Area: 23.66 km2 . Population: 12,820 (2003). 兵庫県南西部,揖保郡の旧町。播磨(はりま)平野西部に当たる揖保川下流部にあり,米作を中心として,トマト,キュウリなどの近郊農業が盛ん。淡口しょうゆ,農機具も産し,羊毛工業も立地。山陽本線が通じる。2005年10月,龍野市,揖保郡新宮町,御津町と合併し市制,たつの市となる。23.66km2。1万2820人(2003)。
