Born in the second year of Kohei. The eldest son of Minamoto Akifusa. His mother was the daughter of Minamoto Takatoshi. He was the founder of the Koga clan. In the first year of Jōryaku (1077), he became a councillor. He rose to the rank of Junior First Rank, and in the third year of Hoan (1122), he became the first Prime Minister of the Minamoto clan. He was called the Prime Minister of the Koga clan. He excelled in dance music, and by imperial order, he taught the secret music of Konju to Oono Tadakata.
