[1] 千本の手。また、多くの手。※わらんべ草（1660）四「狂言は、千手、千眼の、理を以てする業也と、よくしるべし」〔千手千眼観世音菩薩広大円満無礙大悲心陀羅尼経〕[2][一] 「せんじゅかんのん（千手観音）(一)」の略。※霊異記（810‐824）中「千手の像に向かひて、福分を願ひ」[二] 平安末期の遊女。駿河手越(てごし)の長者の女。鎌倉に捕えられた平重衡(たいらのしげひら)の寵愛を受けた。重衡の死後、長野の善光寺にはいり出家したという。「平家物語‐一〇」の「千手の前」に登場する。永万元～文治四年（一一六五‐八八）[三] 謡曲。三番目物。各流。喜多流では「千寿」と書き、参考曲とする。金春禅竹作。古名「千手重衡(せんじゅしげひら)」。一谷の戦いで生け捕られた平重衡は、鎌倉に送られ狩野介宗茂(むねもち)に預けられている。手越の長者の娘千手の前は、頼朝の命で重衡を慰めに訪れ、酒宴を催して朗詠や白拍子を歌い舞を舞う。重衡も興にのって琵琶(びわ)をひくと、千手はそれにあわせて琴を奏する。やがて勅命によって都に送り返される重衡を千手は泣きながら見送る。
