Crops that require a hot and humid tropical climate, excluding those that are usually grown in greenhouses. Examples include coconut palms, oil palms, rubber, coffee, cacao, bananas, and pineapples. Many other crops originate from the tropics; corn is native to tropical America, rice to tropical Asia, and millet to tropical Africa. Many potatoes, cucumbers, and fruit vegetables are also native to the tropics. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
