A glacial lake in a tectonic valley that crosses northern Scotland from northeast to southwest. It is about 36 km long and 2 km wide. Its maximum depth is about 230 m. It connects the River Ness, the Caledonian Canal and other rivers, lakes and canals in the tectonic valley, leading to Inverness on the north coast and Loch Linnhe on the Atlantic coast. It is the largest lake in the UK in terms of water volume.
