Nejimeji

Japanese: 禰寝氏 - ねじめうじ
Nejimeji
A powerful clan in Osumi Province (Kagoshima Prefecture) since the Heian period. Family name Takebe. Based in Minamimata, Nesenin, Shohachimangu Shrine (Nejime Town, Kimotsuki District). In the Kamakura period, they became vassals of the shogunate, and the first Kiyoshige held the position of Jito and Gunji, which was a hereditary position thereafter. A family tree claims them to be descendants of the Taira clan. Other clans in the clan include the Tashiro and Sata clans, and the clan flourished from the end of the Kamakura period to the Nanboku-cho period. Branch clans included the Nishimoto, Ikebata, and Kado clans, and they acted in alliance with one another. They also held Kitamata, Nesenin, Shimazu Manor (Onejime Town, Kimotsuki District). The 7th lord Kiyonari, the 8th lord Kiyoari, and the 9th lord Hisaki, allied with the samurai forces of Hatakeyama Naoaki and Shimazu Sadahisa, and expanded their influence, fighting in various places in Osumi, Hyuga, and Satsuma against the Southern Party led by Kimotsuki Kaneshige, Nirei Yorinaka and Yorishige.
