A movement of people who believe and practice living nude as the true way of life. The idea of placing importance on nudity already existed in ancient Greece and Rome, but it was Christianity that made nudity taboo in Europe. However, as early as the 13th century in Europe, some heretical sects began to preach and practice nude living as a "return to paradise." The first modern naturist movement was the "Nacktkultur" movement, which began in Germany in the early 20th century.

裸体で生きることが真の生き方だと考え実践する人びとの運動。裸体生活を重視する考えは，古代ギリシア･ローマにすでに存在していたが，ヨーロッパにおいて裸体をタブー視したのはキリスト教であった。しかし，すでに13世紀のヨーロッパで，異端派の中には，裸体生活こそ〈楽園への復帰〉だと説き，実践する人びとが出現してきた。近代で最初の裸体主義運動は，20世紀初頭のドイツに始まった〈裸体文化Nacktkultur〉運動である。
