Numinose

...People can feel fear even when the danger is imaginary, not actual, but in either case, it is customary to call it fear when the object is clear, and anxiety when the object is vague. In his book The Sacred (1917), R. Otto analyzed religious emotions as a fundamental fear, coining the term numinose emotion from the Latin numen, which means the power or will of God, or holy power, and made it clear that there is a pair of opposing emotions at its base.
