He became the personal physician of the Moroccan dynasty of Almoravids, who also had influence in Spain, and continued to serve them after they were replaced by the Almohads. He wrote works such as The Book of the Correct Environment for Harmonizing Mind and Body and The Book of Treatment and Diet, the latter of which was translated into Latin under the name Altersir (Theisir).
