...The aim of this study was to clarify the ethnic characteristics of the musical expressions unique to each culture (or ethnic group) and the universality common to all human musical behavior and its products. This field of research was previously called "comparative musicology". Ethnomusicology has largely inherited the research field of comparative musicology, its predecessor, but the research subjects and methodologies vary from researcher to researcher, and therefore there are as many definitions of this field as there are researchers.
