Urea cycle

Urea cycle
The Krebs-Henseleit cycle, also known as the ornithine cycle, is a metabolic cycle that converts ammonia produced by the breakdown of amino acids into less toxic urea. Urea is produced in the liver and excreted by the kidneys, and urea production in the liver is carried out through a cycle proposed by HA Krebs and K. Henseleit in 1932. That is, carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and ammonia (NH 3 ) are synthesized into urea via the pathway of ornithine, citrulline, and arginine. After that, it was confirmed that carbamyl phosphate was involved in the pathway, and the energy-requiring process was also clarified, completing the current cycle. If either enzyme is genetically deficient, urea synthesis is suppressed and hyperammonemia occurs.
