A leader in the flour milling industry. Founded in 1900 by Teiichiro Shoda as Tatebayashi Flour Milling Co., Ltd. in Tatebayashi Town, Gunma Prefecture (now Tatebayashi City) with the aim of mechanized flour milling. In 1907, the company merged with Nisshin Flour Milling Co., Ltd., which had been established in Yokohama and was building a factory, changing its name to Nisshin Flour Milling Co., Ltd., and moved its head office to Tokyo. Later, during the economic boom after World War I, the company opened new factories in Nagoya, Mito, Okayama, and Kobe. In 1928, the company opened the Tsurumi Factory as a coastal flour mill using imported wheat as a raw material, and then rode the subsequent export boom to increase production volume, competing with Nippon Flour Mills for the top spot in the industry.
