Also called the 24 Osaka Hishigaki Kaigan Shipping Wholesalers. A group of Edo shipping wholesalers in Osaka. Founded in 1694, at about the same time as the Tokumi Donya group in Edo, there were 10 groups at first, but by the Kyoho era (1716-1736) there were 24 groups. They purchased goods in response to orders from the Tokumi Donya group, and transported the goods exclusively with their subordinate Hishigaki Kaigan ships. Most of the cargo was daily necessities such as cotton, sake, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, paper, and metal goods. In 1884, the Kabu Nakama was officially recognized, but it gradually declined during the late Edo period, and commercial transactions between Edo and Osaka were not smooth. It was dissolved in 1841 due to the dissolution of the Kabu Nakama, and was revived in 1751, but was dissolved again with the Meiji Restoration.
