A disease that occurs as a result of cerebral circulatory disorders caused by hardening of the cerebral arteries. It begins with acute or subacute changes in cerebral blood flow, such as hypertensive encephalopathy or transient ischemic attacks, and often leads to hemorrhage and infarction, leading to multi-infarct dementia. Early symptoms include insomnia, headache, forgetfulness, and dizziness, and eventually the ability to perform mental tasks declines, leading to dementia. It is characterized by affective incontinence (rapid emotional changes) and patchy dementia (patchy dementia, characterized by uneven decline in mental function).
