The honorific form of Onari, Uminaibi, means the daughter of a king, and it is possible that Onari was a word referring to the younger generation. In western Japan, women who prepare meals, such as during rice planting season, are called Onari, but Onari-gami also tend to be associated with those who handle offerings.
